3 Important Traits to Look for Before Hiring a New Recruit
Are you looking to build a successful company? If yes, then start including these three traits in your hiring practices so that you can build an amazing work culture with the best potential employees. After all, no company can afford a bad hire after spending so much time, energy, and money in hiring.
In this article, we will be discussing the importance of integrity, willingness to learn, and mindfulness as traits to look for in a new hire. These are the qualities that will separate good candidates from great ones.
In hiring, I agree there are many variables to pay attention to – from the body language, attitude, tone, and speech, to predict what the candidate is thinking. However, companies today need to at least make an effort in attracting and retaining employees with these below-mentioned traits.
Integrity
When asked Warren Buffett, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway how his company hires. He said,
We look for three things when we hire people. We look for intelligence, we look for initiative or energy, and we look for integrity.
A reliable or honest person is someone whom you can trust will provide high-quality work along with being an authentic team player. He is someone who convinces others on the team to improve and make positive changes.
Willingness to learn
A person who is eager or curious to learn will always come up with new ideas to improve the business. They will be open to challenges as well as be willing to adapt quickly to change. They will contribute more than what their position requires and will not be afraid of doing hard work. You need such a person on your team, whose readiness to learn and teach motivates themself, but others as well. Acquiring and sharing knowledge is how you build an amazing work culture where not only your employees succeed, but also your company grows as well.
Present Awareness
This is a trait that is always overlooked, yet is extremely important when hiring.

He or she is a good listener and demonstrates an ability to make others feel heard. They remember more information than others and is genuinely confident in expressing their thoughts and feelings. This is a crucial trait to have in today’s hyper-stimulated society, don’t you think?
I would like to end this article with a quote from author Simon Sinek who says,
Great companies don’t hire skilled people and motivate them, they hire already motivated people and inspire them.
These are the three important traits that employers must look for in prospective employees, they will help employers make better hiring decisions.
